The Hamlin Family Beach Session in Michigan City, Indiana
As a Michigan City family photographer, there is something so special about documenting families during a season that feels worth remembering forever. I love creating sessions that reflect each family’s unique story and the places that mean the most to them. When the Hamlin family reached out about planning a family session, we knew we wanted to create something meaningful that reflected who they are and what they love most.
Before their session, we met for a design consultation where we discussed everything from outfit selections to the overall vision for their photographs. One of my favorite parts of the experience I provide is helping families plan every detail beforehand so they can arrive feeling confident, prepared, and excited for their session.
Planning the Perfect Family Session
During our consultation, the Hamlin’s shared that they love spending time at the beach together. As we talked through location options, it quickly became clear that the shoreline of Michigan City, Indiana would be the perfect backdrop for their family portraits.
Not only did the beach reflect a place that holds meaning for their family, but it also provided the timeless and natural setting they were envisioning. Soft sand, lake views, and beautiful evening light created the perfect environment for authentic moments to unfold.
Celebrating Bridget’s First Birthday
This session was especially meaningful because their daughter, Bridget, had recently celebrated her first birthday. The first year of parenthood is filled with so many milestones, changes, and memories that seem to pass by in the blink of an eye.
Documenting this season felt like the perfect way to preserve those memories. Bridget brought so much joy and personality to the session, and watching her explore the beach while surrounded by her parents made for some of my favorite moments of the evening.
A Beautiful September Evening in Michigan City
On September 14, 2025, we met along the shoreline as the evening sun began to soften across Lake Michigan. The weather was beautiful, the beach was peaceful, and the entire session felt relaxed from beginning to end.
Rather than focusing on perfectly posed moments, we embraced movement, connection, and genuine interaction. The Hamlins laughed together, played with Bridget in the sand, and simply enjoyed being present with one another. Those authentic moments are often the ones that become the most treasured photographs.
