A Rainy Wedding at Whitetail Ridge Golf Club | The DeGarmos

When Rain Changes the Plan—But Not the Dream

Every couple spends months imagining what their wedding day will look like. For Megan and Wes, that vision was filled with everything they loved most—soft summer hues, the beautiful scenery of Whitetail Ridge Golf Club in Yorkville, Illinois, and being surrounded by their closest family and friends as they began their next chapter together.

One of the biggest parts of Megan’s dream was exchanging vows outdoors on the golf course. She envisioned the open landscape, the beautiful summer atmosphere, and the feeling of having everyone she loved gathered around them.

Then came the rain.

As the morning unfolded, the forecast continued to shift, and it quickly became clear that some adjustments would need to be made. The backup plan was to move their ceremony indoors, but before making that final decision, I encouraged Megan to trust the process and hold onto the outdoor ceremony she had envisioned—even if it looked a little different than originally planned.

And she trusted me.

A Rainy Outdoor Ceremony at Whitetail Ridge Golf Club

Instead of letting the weather change the entire story of their day, we embraced what was in front of us.

Umbrellas came out. The rain continued to fall. And Megan and Wes exchanged vows outside on the patio surrounded by the people who mean the most to them. And honestly? It was beautiful.

There was something incredibly special about watching everyone come together, bundled under umbrellas and fully present in the moment. The rain became part of their story—not something that took away from it.

Some of the most memorable wedding moments aren’t created when everything goes perfectly. They’re created when couples choose to be fully present and trust the people around them.

Dreamy Portraits, Cotton Candy Skies, and Unexpected Magic

One of my favorite parts of wedding days is finding those little pockets of magic that no one could have planned.

Despite the rainy start, we were still able to sneak away during the evening for portraits—and Mother Nature completely surprised us. The clouds opened up just enough to create the most dreamy cotton candy-colored sky, giving Megan and Wes the romantic, soft summer portraits they had envisioned.

We also made our way to one of Megan’s must-have locations: the beautiful willow tree. Being able to capture those portraits during their reception was such a special moment because it brought another piece of her wedding vision to life.

And then, as if the evening couldn’t get any more perfect, we stumbled across the most beautiful horses during our evening portrait adventure. It was one of those unexpected moments that made everyone stop and appreciate how perfectly the day was unfolding.

Those are the moments you can’t always plan—but you can always cherish.

A Summer Wedding Filled With Love

Even with the changing weather, Megan’s vision was never lost.

Every detail reflected the warmth and joy she hoped for—from the summer-inspired colors to the laughter shared between friends and family. The rain changed the timeline, but it never changed the feeling of the day.

There were happy tears during the ceremony, endless hugs, full dance floors, and so much love surrounding Megan and Wes from start to finish. At the end of the day, that is what makes a wedding unforgettable.

The Importance of Trusting Your Vendor Team

Wedding days rarely unfold exactly as planned. What matters most is having a team that can adapt, communicate, and protect the experience you’ve been dreaming about.

I’m incredibly grateful Megan trusted my encouragement to wait before moving everything indoors. Because of that trust, she was still able to experience the outdoor ceremony she had pictured for so long.

And none of this would have been possible without an incredible vendor team working together behind the scenes. Every person stepped up, adjusted quickly, and helped create a seamless day centered around Megan and Wes.

That kind of teamwork is what makes wedding days truly special.

Rain Didn’t Ruin This Wedding Day

If there is one thing Megan and Wes’s wedding day showed us, it’s that perfect weather doesn’t create perfect memories.

The rain created a more intimate ceremony.
The clouds created a dreamy sunset.
The unexpected moments created some of the most meaningful photographs.

Years from now, they won’t just remember that it rained.

They’ll remember standing hand in hand on the patio, surrounded by the people they love, chasing cotton candy skies, laughing during their portrait adventure, and beginning their marriage in the most uniquely beautiful way.

Congratulations, Megan and Wes. Thank you for trusting the process, embracing every unexpected moment, and allowing your wedding day to unfold exactly as it was meant to. 🤍
